Finding The Right Neighborhood For You
Moving to a new city can be difficult. You
have to find a home, change all of your utilities, change billing
addresses, etc, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. The most important step
is finding a new home. You cant just pick any home with out considering
several factors. This article will give you some help finding the right
neighborhood for you.
Things To Consider
What kind of area are you looking for?
You can choose an active city or a quiet suburb. You can choose a new
neighborhood or an established one. Do you want parks and shopping close
by or do you mind driving to them. Think about the type of neighborhood
you want before you go looking.
What is the crime rate?
Check to see if your neighborhood has an acceptable crime rate. Do a
search on the internet or contact the local police department for
statistics. Search the sex offender registry and see how many sex
offenders are in your area. Drive around your potential neighborhood and
look for signs of crime such as broken glass, graffiti, bars on windows,
etc. Don't just check it out during the daytime, drive it at night.
What are property values doing?
Check to see if property values are on the rise or on the decline. Ask
your real estate agent how prices now compare to prices a few years ago.
While you are at it, check into the local property tax rate. Tax rates can
vary greatly from city to city.
Is the neighborhood kept up?
Check to see if lawns are kept cut, trash is picked up, homes are painted,
etc. If people are not taking care of their property, chances are the
neighborhood is on a downward slide.
How are the schools?
If you have kids, chances are that this is the most important
consideration. Look and see how close the schools are and what condition
they are in. Do some research online to find out how the local schools
rank.
